Andrew Patterson
Andrew Patterson is a Toronto-based artist who is fascinated by exploring and expressing the perspectives that grow in the grey in-between worlds that mixed-race individuals often inhabit.
His practice, painting, illustrating, and producing murals primarily focuses on mixed-race identity and highlighting the commonalities of different cultures as a bridge to creating unity. He does this through contemporary portraiture and geometric illustration, but also uses typography and abstraction, and across a variety of media and scales.
Some of his biggest influences are hip hop and graffiti, skate and Japanese culture, and of course film and music – anywhere that cultures clash, interact and create new fictions.
